I’m about to turn 50, and I’m in the best health of my life.

Most days, I wake up refreshed, and my energy carries me through the day, not just the morning.

Almost every night, I’d wake up with a stomachache.

I was too embarrassed to admit that my mind felt noisy, scattered, and foggy.

And when I looked in the mirror, my body felt unfamiliar —belly fat I couldn’t explain, skin that didn’t feel like mine anymore.

I was constantly pushing, constantly putting out fires, rarely feeling comfortable.

I was carrying an invisible load no one else could see.

And when I finally asked for help, I was told this was just what happens as you move into perimenopause — or that it was “just stress.”

So I tried to handle it on my own.

I followed plans that promised results.
Sometimes the scale moved. Sometimes symptoms eased.
But nothing truly changed how I felt, and the restriction wasn’t sustainable.

I tried supplements, never quite sure which ones were actually helping.
I did all kinds of functional testing to get to the bottom of it.

Thousands of dollars later, I still found no long-term solutions.

I tried prolonged fasting, and it backfired.

Everything required more time, more effort, and more money, which only led to more disappointment because I still didn’t feel like myself.

When the stomach ache woke me up at 3 a.m., like an alarm clock, I’d think:
Is this just how it’s going to be from now on for the rest of my life?

I didn’t bring all my supplements — they didn’t fit in my suitcase.
That alone made me nervous.

I slept deeply.
My mood lifted.
